Fear not, fellow citizens of this gentle metropolis tucked safely and securely in this Southern Appalachian mountain hideaway. We are not being overrun by strange and malevolent creatures from outer space. Nor are we being invaded by hideous, villainous entities from the darker recesses of the under-realm.
We’re also not confronting an endemic onslaught of adorable manifestations from the cinematic world of make-believe and wild imagination. We at The Park on Main®, the luxury hotel in the monster-free zone of Highlands, North Carolina, have successfully stemmed the tide – once again – that Oct. 31 always seems to pose. (You may profusely thank us later.)
You may return to your homes (or hotel rooms) secure in the knowledge that our streets are inhabited but once a year by this colorful and imposing contingency of costumed little ones. (Well, mostly little ones. There will be plenty of frightful-looking big ones as well.)
On the other hand, we prefer you not return to your home or to your luxury hotel room at The Park on Main®. We invite you to attend this year’s event to enjoy Highlands Downtown All Hallows Eve Celebration Saturday, Oct. 31. The event is 6-8 p.m.
We promise – despite the ghoulish appearances that are sure to greet you – that all you’ll encounter is just some good, old-fashioned small town fun.
Enjoy Fun, Contest, Friendly Atmosphere
We will introduce our very own Mr. Pickles, who serves as our mascot, emcee, spokesdog and canine ambassador to the human race – at least those who make their stay at The Park on Main®, Highland’s pet-friendly hotel.
While not very communicative, the exceptionally social and gregarious solid black Scottish terrier will greet his many fans, provide any advice or direction they may need and may even assist in contest-costume judging – if his busy schedule permits.
City officials are expecting robust crowds in the downtown area; the city is closing access to vehicle traffic to create a zone for only pedestrians, pets and other animated mutations.
Children – and reasonable facsimiles – will have the opportunity to win stuffed Scotty dogs during the event’s contest.
Event decorations will include dog and human skeletons, glass pumpkins, other Halloween paraphernalia and autumn ornaments. We urge families to bring their little ones to participate in trick or treating at the event. Those who attend may participate in games and other activities at the community party.
