The summer, especially near Independence Day, is a great time to be in Highlands, N.C. Enjoy the cooler elevation of the surrounding mountains. Or get splashed by waterfalls for good ole summer fun. The Fourth of July holiday season is busy in Highlands! Enjoy Independence Day summer fun in Highlands, N.C. with a full schedule of patriotic activities to celebrate America.

Highlands Summer Sounds

There is good music in the area starting with Friday Night Live: Southern Highlands as part of the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina on at 6 p.m. on June 30, 2017. The event is at the Town Square on Main Street.

Next is the “A Jazzy Evening in Highlands” of the Highlands-Cashiers Music Festival on July 2, 2017. The event, which begins at 7:15 p.m., is hosted by Lynne & Jim Browne and features 12 locations. Chef Marty Rosenfield prepares New Orleans cuisine featuring seafood. Special musical guest is Gary Motley.

The Landscape of America

Red, White and Blue-tiful is set for July 1 at 10 a.m. at the Highlands Botanical Station. Come ready to discover animal life, blooms of the region and spot stars and stripes or the colors red, white and blue.

Spend time at Bridal Veil Falls or Dry Falls , two of the popular waterfalls in the area. Drive your car under Bridal Veil Falls along U.S. 64 on the way to Dry Falls.

Grab your best pair of hiking shoes and set off on an adventure exploring the mountain landscape that draws visitors year round. Whiteside Mountain, designated as a National Recreational Trail, is about six miles east of Highlands. Whether you visit a nearby waterfall or hike the network of beautiful trails in the region, it’s a great way to enjoy America’s birthday.

While in town, check out the Highlands Heritage Walking Trail to learn more about this unique area. Browse local shops to find patriotic apparel to be ready for all the Fourth of July activities.

Independence Day Summer Fun In Highlands, N.C.

On July 4th the Rotary Club of Highlands hosts a number of community events to celebrate Independence Day. The barbecue and duck derby are fundraisers for the service organization.

Here is the day:     

9 am – Rocket Launch – Cub Scout Pack 207 and Boy Scout Troop 207 (at the Town & Zachary Softball/Baseball Field)

11 am – Field Games

11 am – Annual Rotary Barbecue Cookout at Kelsey Hutchinson Founders Park

3 pm – Rubber Ducky Derby by the Rotary Club at Mill Creek

8 pm – Annual July 4th Patriotic Mini Concert at First Presbyterian Church of Highlands

9 pm – Highlands Fireworks Display on Main Street

It’s a holiday packed full of fun activities. Bring your lawn chairs, your appetite and enjoy all that Highlands has to offer to celebrate Independence Day and the remainder of the summer.
