Mr. Pickles is his name and loping rather contentedly around the premises of a North Carolina luxury hotel is his game.
He’s a solid black Scottish terrier and he’s almost 3 years old. He’s noble, serious, inquisitive and, as some suspect, rather mischievous. He’s the mascot at The Park on Main®, the pet-friendly hotel in Highlands, North Carolina – and for good reason.
Although incapable of articulately expressing himself to that bi-pedal species – who he frequently describes as being wrapped in strange cloth material and incessantly jabbering bizarre non-canine sounds – Mr. Pickles is our emcee and our beloved spokesdog. (Our beloved general manager, Michael Hammond, tends to the management of lesser communications.)
It is Mr. Pickles’ matter of course. And we at The Park on Main®, the requisite place for beautiful vacationing, present to you an invitation from our most favorite Scottish terrier. (Don’t tell Mr. Pickles that he’s our only Scottish terrier.)
Mr. Pickles Holds Press Conference
Working through our Bark-to-English translator, Mr. Pickles says: “Please, my dear humans, attend our event with Mimosas on Oct. 11. from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.”
Mr. Pickles pauses momentarily before continuing: “Humans, please bring your dogs. They are most welcome from my point of view.”
The Scottish terrier shuffles, scratches and restrains himself from darting off, before proceeding with the press conference: “The humans will be serving mimosas. I’m told humans find mimosas absolutely delicious.
“I also want to add that all the other humans that I see in this Highlands-Cashier area are invited. In fact, they are very welcome too. There is no admission fee, whatever that means. But if you are feeling especially generous – and I love generous humans, they make my tail wag – donations go to the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society.
“One more thing,” Mr. Pickles barks in broken English. “If you’re a guest at The Park on Main®, I already knew you were here. So please come down and have some snacks and mimosas with us. We’d love to see you.
“Thank you, dear humans. Now I’ve got to run. No, seriously. I have to run.”
