Lovers of great cuisine and wine connoisseurs alike will gather about town this week for the Highlands 8th Annual Culinary Weekend. The event which begins on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014 is sponsored by the Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center.
The Delicious Side of Highlands
Culinary weekend brings together a host of local chefs showcasing the best of Highlands’ cuisine along with samples from area wineries, distributors and vineyards. There will be plenty of tasting opportunities during the four-day event so, “Bon appetite!”
This year’s culinary weekend is chaired by Laura Huerta, owner of Lakeside Restaurant.
In a 2011 Laurel Magazine video about the Highlands Culinary Weekend, Huerta explains that the event originated from a group of individuals who thought that with all the great restaurants in the area, everyone should get together and showcase them.
“It’s been a popular destination on the Highlands social calendar,” Huerta said.
Highlands Culinary Weekend starts on Thursday evening with Opening Night set at the Highlands Country Club. The weekend of events includes wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, dinners, and the Waiters Race.
“We’ve watched it grow and it’s really put Highlands on the map as a culinary destination,” Huerta said.
The event includes about two dozen local restaurants, wineries, vineyards and distributors in addition to a variety of area specialty retail shops.
Time to Sip & Stroll
A number of shops and other businesses in downtown Highlands participate in the annual culinary festival during the Sip & Stroll scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Strolling begins at the Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center on Main Street where everyone receives a map of participating locations along with a souvenir wine glass. Everyone who completes the tour will be eligible to receive a variety of prizes including gift certificates for dinner, wine and to shop at local merchants.
The Park On Main Hotel® is a Sip & Stroll destination on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014. We will feature a wine tasting in the lobby of the hotel. Strollers can also take a tour of our beautiful hotel and experience the rustic upscale elegance we’re known for here at The Park On Main® Hotel.
