Something compels us to submerse ourselves in an alternative atmospheric element (perhaps in a place called Highlands’ Recreation Park Swimming Pool). We strive to enter a realm that releases us from the burdensome parameters of living in a world of physical laws like gravity. After all, levitation, triple mid-air flips and performing Matrix-like stunts just ain’t gonna happen – not on this planet and not in real life.
So, by golly, what do we do? We leap carelessly, even frivolously, like oversized children, into the swimming pool where all those stunts are possible and encouraged, where we are seemingly set at liberty from the cruel constraints of gravitational pull and the insidious demands of common, ordinary air pressure.
In a word, going to the pool should elicit this response: “Yippee!” Or maybe: “Yahooee!” Or perhaps: “Wahoo!”
We at The Park on Main® in Highlands, North Carolina understand this sentiment. In fact, that’s why we make it our point to point you to the Highlands’ Recreation Park Swimming Pool where “yippee,” “yahooee” and “wahoo” are allowed year round. (The pool, by the way, is heated.)
The Highlands Pool Complex is at the town’s Recreation Park, which is next to the Civic Center, 600 North Fourth Street.
Of course, swimming isn’t just for silly-minded folks who want to spend their water time in mere fun and frolic. Because of its buoyancy, water provides an excellent medium for exercise. Not like the pounding of running, the barking dogs of running, the sand traps in golfing or the chasing of stray yellow balls of tennis. Swimming is smart.
In other words, water – the Earth’s most precious commodity – provides so much fun for everyone. (Ain’t H2O wonderful?)
