Senior Dog Calhoun Finds with Forever Home after Staying with us at Park on Main

At the Park on Main, we are committed to not only being dog-friendly but “dog-forward,” as our General Manager Devon Allio puts it. We love to foster shelter dogs to give them the best chance at a better life. Since 2015, we’ve had a partnership with the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society (CHHS) to foster dogs.

Calhoun’s Story

Calhoun, an 8-year-old Coonhound mix, found himself at the shelter last July, rescued as a stray in Hendersonville. At The Park on Main, Calhoun not only experienced the lap of luxury but also caught the attention of guests, each a potential forever home.

One guest, Sydney Haykel, fell in love with him and even took him to her room and on a walk. Calhoun reminded her and her partner of a dog they had lost not long before.

Sydney ended up going back to her home in Nashville but couldn’t get Calhoun off her mind. When she decided to adopt him, shelter staff made arrangements to drive him to Tennessee, at a half-way point between Highlands and Nashville.

Here at The Park on Main, we were sad to see Calhoun go but so very happy he found his forever home. Calhoon now has another playmate named Goober and since his new owner works for the Nashville Predators NHL team, he may make their annual dog calendar!

We are excited that Calhoun made the news! His story was featured on News13 and in The Observer.

The Park on Main is proud to foster dogs and we have a new furry teammate named Riley. While we were sad to see Calhoun go, we are so excited to welcome Riley.
